Most contractors leave a job site broom-clean, and that's exactly what it sounds like. Drywall dust is fine enough to float, settle, and float again, so it ends up on top of cabinets, inside vents, in window tracks, and on every ledge and fixture in the house. Sweeping just moves it around.
A real post-construction clean works from the top down and in a strict order: dust first, from ceilings, fans, and fixtures down to walls, ledges, and trim, using microfiber and HEPA vacuums rather than feather dusters. Then surfaces: cabinets and drawers inside and out, counters, appliances, and fixtures. Then glass and tracks. Floors come last, so nothing gets re-coated as we work.
Residue is the other half of the job. Paint splatter, adhesive, caulk smears, and manufacturer stickers on new glass, tile, and appliances all need to come off without scratching the finish. That takes the right products and some patience.
Timing matters. Schedule the clean after every trade is done and the final punch list is complete, but before furniture or boxes arrive. If a contractor is still coming back for touch-ups, a rough clean now and a final clean afterward is usually worth it.
